Over the weekend, I made these covered button earrings. I came across the idea months ago on a blog called Casa De Lewis and could not believe how simple the project looked. It took me some time to actually do this project because it involved going to the store to pick up a few jewelry making items (I tend to like doing the projects that involve items I already have). I finally went to the store to pick up the needed items and made a pair of earrings. Once I made one pair, I was hooked!! This is a really easy DIY project and these button earrings really are super cute! Here is how to make a pair of your very own covered button earrings...
You will need:
- Fabric of your choice (I picked this up at Jo-Ann Fabrics for $1.50)
- A covered button kit (you can find this in your local craft store with the buttons)
- Earring Posts & Earring Backs (found in the DIY jewelry department of your local craft store)
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue
Step One: Using the covered button kit, cut out the template
Step Two: Use that template to cut out the fabric circles
Step Three: Place your fabric circle into the button maker (colorful side down), push the button in and fold the fabric into the back of the button
Step Four: Using pliers or a crummy pair of scissors that you don't mind ruining, remove the loop from the button backing (If you use scissors, you just need to place them around the loop and gently squeeze - this will remove the loop)
Step Five: Place the now loop-less button backing into the button maker
Step Six: Take the blue piece from your button making kit and press down until you hear a click (this presses the backing into the front of the button & secures the fabric between the two pieces)
Step Seven: Using the hot glue gun, place a small bead of glue onto the back of the button
Step Eight: Place your earring post onto the bead of glue and press down firmly
Step Nine: Allow to dry
Step Ten: Put on your new covered button earrings and enjoy!
I still cannot get over how simple & adorable these earrings are. I've only made a few pairs so far but once I pick up some more fabric, I will be making tons of them!
Happy Crafting Folks!
Lots of Love,
Meg
