This year, I decided to make a lot of my Christmas gifts rather than go out and purchase them. I had so many people that I wanted to get something for and yet the budget just did not allow for it! So rather than getting one or two gifts, I made a bunch of homemade gifts and was able to give everyone on my list a little something special. One of the DIY gifts that I made was a personalized wine glass. I found the idea on Pinterest and after doing a little research and a bit of shopping in the craft store, I decided that this would be an awesome DIY gift idea! If you want to make a personalized glass for someone but they aren't a wine drinker, this DIY can be done on any kind of glass or mug!! Here is how to make your very own fancy glass...
You will need:
- A Glass
- Multi Surface Acrylic Craft Paint - In a few different colors (I went with the glitter collection by Martha Stewart)
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Q-Tips
Step One: Thoroughly clean the glass with soap and water
Step Two: Dry it off with a paper towel
Step Three: Apply rubbing alcohol over the parts of the glass that you are planning to paint
Step Four: Using a Q-Tip, dip it into the paint and place it onto the glass making a dot, continue to do this until you have covered a large portion of the glass with dots in that color
Step Five: Using a new Q-Tip, apply a new color to the glass in the same way you did with the previous color
Step Six: Repeat step five with all of the colors that you have chosen to use, using a different Q-tip each time. I chose to only cover half of the glass with the dots (they were close together at the bottom but started to spread out more as they reached the middle) but you can get creative here and do whatever you choose!
Step Seven: Allow the glass to dry for a full 24 hours
Step Eight: Put into a cold oven and preheat to 350 Degrees (it is very important that the glasses go in while the oven is cold as they could shatter inside of the oven!)
Step Nine: Let them sit in the oven for 30 minutes, take them out, let them cool and they are done!!
**These glasses must be hand washed as the paint will come off if they are put into a dishwasher!**
If you are not a fan of the dot pattern, you can paint whatever you like onto your personalized glass!
Happy Crafting!
Lots of Love,
Meg
