Frugal Fridays - Homemade Croutons

Happy Frugal Friday folks!!  For this week's money saving post, I decided to share my recipe for homemade croutons.  When purchasing a bag or box of croutons at the grocery store, you probably won't spend more than a few dollars.  This delicious salad topping is not exactly an expensive item but why not save yourself the two or three dollars and make them yourself?  Most of us purchase a loaf of bread during the week.  Whether it's a loaf of bread for sandwich making or a nice big loaf of Italian bread that you just didn't finish after Wednesday night's pasta dinner, you will probably have some extra bread in your home.  Rather than tossing that bread out as it starts to go stale, you can make yourself some yummy homemade croutons!  Here's the scoop...

You will need:

Step One:  Preheat the oven to 300 Degrees
Step Two:  Cut the bread into cubes
Step Three:  Drizzle olive oil and sprinkle seasonings onto the bread cubes
Step Four:  Mix the cubes of bread so that the olive oil and seasoning are evenly distributed
Step Five:  Spread bread cubes onto a cookie sheet in a single even layer
Step Six:  Bake for 15 minutes
Step Seven:  Remove the croutons from the oven and stir them around
Step Eight:  Bake for an additional 15 minutes** (until dry, crispy and golden brown)

**Cooking time may vary as every oven is a little different

So that's it, Quick and easy homemade croutons!  This Frugal Friday has two perks...it saves you money AND your croutons won't be made with any weird ingredients that you can't pronounce.  You know what's in them because you made them...double bonus!

Lots of Love,
Meg
